Recipe for Success

March 20, 2019 by Jorge

Recipe for Success Foundation was launched in 2005 by Gracie & Bob
Cavnar to lead the way in combating childhood obesity by changing the
way children understand, appreciate and eat their food and by helping
the community provide healthier diets for our kids. We teach
Seed-to-Plate Nutrition Education™, which takes elementary school
children through planting seeds to harvesting their garden and cooking
with the food they grew!

Along the way we’ve created partnering programs such as Farmers marKIDS,
where children learn to create & market a product based on food they’ve
grown, and the VegOut! 30 Ways in 30 Days Challenge where we encourage
participants to try 30 different vegetables in the span of a month. This
challenge has been used across companies, schools, and nationally as a
tool to raise awareness for how few vegetables we generally include in
our diets. It’s completely free, easy to use (either by web or app), and
makes a game of healthy eating!

The Texas – Mexico border region is home to over 1.4 million Texans, making it a unique, dynamic area where various cultures come together and interrelate across geopolitical boundaries. The border region poses particular challenges to the U.S. health care system: It is one of the fastest-growing in the nation, with a majority Hispanic population, in addition to having lower educational attainment, lower-income status, higher rates of unemployment and poverty, and a significant shortage of health care providers.
During this public health summit, experts in food inequity, education, infectious diseases, and public policy will address the very specific challenges border cities face and will end with a call to (View Full Event Description Here: https://childrenatrisk.org/event/inequities-in-texas-border-communities-a-public-health-summit/)
