DFC 2018: Continuing to Rebuild a Healthier Houston Together

To our wonderful family of supporters, leaders, collaborators and community members: Doctors for Change wishes you a happy new year! As we turn the page on a challenging and momentous year for our great city of Houston, we at DFC are picking up right where we left off by continuing our work in addressing the unacceptable realities we see in our city and state.

Last year, our educational forums provided an environment in which healthcare professionals, students, community leaders and legislators alike came together to learn about programs and initiatives in the community, exchange ideas and collaborate with one another. Our goal this year is to build on that success by expanding on our forums by improving our presentation, background information, and follow-up communication using feedback from our attendees.

    CHILDREN AT RISK, in Partnership with the University of Texas School of Public Health, presents Inequities in Texas Border Communities: A Public Health Summit.
    The Texas – Mexico border region is home to over 1.4 million Texans, making it a unique, dynamic area where various cultures come together and interrelate across geopolitical boundaries. The border region poses particular challenges to the U.S. health care system: It is one of the fastest-growing in the nation, with a majority Hispanic population, in addition to having lower educational attainment, lower-income status, higher rates of unemployment and poverty, and a significant shortage of health care providers.
